Discovering Peace

Are you looking for peace?  How do you calm your mind and heart? Do you struggle with depression and anxiety? I know I do, sometimes. So, let’s talk about what makes us better; here is what helps me.
  • Walk outdoors
  • Journal my thoughts and prayers
  • Determine what I can do to control the situation
  • Read what God says about the situation

I know I love spicy food, but I also know if I am eating a late dinner, I need to consider how that food will affect my sleep. It is the same thing with peace.  When you are searching for peace, you must think about what you watch, what you listen to, and what are you thinking about.

Stop!  Ask yourself, “How will this movie, this song or these thoughts affect me?” If you want personal peace, it involves both the heart and mind. It comes down to guarding what you put into your mind. It is your decision.

In Philippians 4:8, the Bible instructs us to continually think on good, lovely, wholesome things that bring us peace.

Consider what brings you peace. Think on those things. Personally, I listen to praise music, take a walk, and spend time in prayer, and read God’s word.  I find comfort when I read Psalms and when I pray. My peace comes from my Peacemaker. He is waiting to give you peace; just reach out to Him. He has not moved.

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast (that is, committed and focused on You – in both inclination and character), because he trusts and takes refuge in You (with hope and confident expectation)”.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God (that peace which reassures the heart, that peace) which transcends all understanding, (that peace which) stands guard over your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus (is yours).

Prayer
Father, I ask that you give my friend peace, no matter the circumstance. Your word says all we have to do is to ask. I pray that you will guard our minds and develop within in us self-control to be mindful of what we allow into our minds and hearts.  We are Your temple, therefore we must guard against thoughts and information that is contrary to your word. I send this request in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Blessed Beyond Measure,
Sally
